I pack a small bag of clothes and a few personal things that I think I might need. What does one pack when running away with an alien? Lip balm? Deodorant? Condoms? My favorite little black dress, or comfy leggings?

He stands in the doorway, filling it.

I hadn’t noticed how big he was—I was kind of distracted by the pain of being shot and the murders. His shoulders are broad, and he’s tall. I’m barely shoulder height. The black uniform he wears clings to every hard plane and curve. I suspect it’s a uniform because there are three hollow circles on his sleeve, marking his rank.

His tail gives the occasional flick, the only sign that he’s at all worried or agitated.

I shove my passport—because I don’t know where we are going—and a couple of changes of underwear into the backpack.

There’s a pile of clothes on the bed that I want to change into as I’m not going on the lam in my bloodied pizza delivery uniform. “Can you turn around so I can get changed?”

One eyebrow twitches before he turns, giving me a perfect view of his tail and his ass. I bite my lip, willing myself to look away, but it’s been months and I have never gotten so close to such a well-formed man—probably because he isn’t a man, or at least not human. Are all Merlzhen this…hot is such a lame description.

He's gorgeous, muscly, and big enough to make me feel like a feather. He certainly carried me like one.

Yeah, and he’s killed four aliens.

Who would’ve killed him and me.

I turn my back and strip off my shirt, tossing it in the laundry before realizing it doesn’t matter as it’s never going to be washed. I slip on a long-sleeved T-shirt, then pull on a coat, I assume that it’s going to be cold riding a dragon.

“How is this going to work? Will you be carrying me, or will I be riding you?” My cheeks heat and burn like I’ve stuck my face in an oven. I hope he doesn’t understand the double entendre.

He turns his head enough that I can see the smile on his lips. Oh yeah, he got it. “You will ride me.”

The images that fill my mind do not involve dragons. I’m not sure what he has in his pants, but we must be reasonably compatible as I have alien blood in my veins.

Of course he could be lying about that…

When he turns away, I pull on jeans, adjust the tea towel bandage, and shove on my runners. “How will I hold on?”

“With your hands.”

“That really doesn’t sound safe. How big do you get?” I should stop talking now.

Bleiz laughs. “Big enough to carry you with no problem.”

“No, I mean, will I be able to wrap my legs…” I suck in a breath. I’m sure my cheeks could rival the sun for heat. “Will it be like riding a horse?”

“I don’t know what a horse is.”

Great. “What if I fall off?”

“I will catch you.”

I envisioned myself plummeting through the sky and hitting the ground in a bloody, broken mess.
